The MIA emu turned up. We suspect a well hidden nest but haven’t dug around out there to try and really find it. Glad it’s back though.
We got iced in today! It was pretty much gone by about 1PM. I was going to try to go to work but the truck wouldn’t start. I need new batteries in it but really can’t afford that just yet. It doesn’t jump start right off the bat. You got to let it charge for 20 minutes or so. By then it would have been a waste of fuel to go to work so I just took the rest of the day off.
Lambs, lambs, and more lambs!!! All but one ewe has delivered. We literally JUST had another set of twins born to one of the black bellies. That puts us up to 5 sets of twins and 14 total lambs for the season so far. That ought to buy us back some feed by September or October. I’d love to get a ridiculously large herd built up but I just don’t have the forage to feed them. Some day, some day…
Goodness time flies! Due to business related time commitments I have not had a chance to post in a while. Lost of stuff has been and is happening too. I have no time for much of an update but here’s what I got.
Lambing season is going crazy! 10 new lambs so far. Lots of boys. Three ewes have yet to deliver. If they all go, then every mama we have will have had something.
Rambo is a killer. He and his son Spot where fighting. We think Rambo hit Spot on the side and broke a rib, puncturing a lung. All oldest daughter saw from the house was Spot flying 3-4 feed up in the air. We were out of town of course. Stuff like that always happens at the most convenient times.
Had to move a rooster to the small mobile coop. He was being picked on and not doing well. Had him inside a few days. Crowing at 1 AM last night ensured his move today!
MIA Emu. We’ve misplaced one of the three emus. Haven’t seen her in three days or so now. Searched the property twice so far but no sign. Dead or alive.
First vet visit for one of the Pyrenees today. Sammy had an ingrown dew claw so we had to have a vet look at it. She’s a master at being dead weight as she becomes one with the floor. 85 lbs of dead weight… She’s good now though.
Another lamb being raised inside. Mocha was unwanted by mom. She’s the happiest lamb in the world too. Much easier to raise than Pistol was. She got an infected hoof somehow and also had to go to the vet a few days ago. She was apparently the cutest animal the staff had ever seen.
I got, and recovered from, pneumonia over the holidays. Still recovering really. Takes a bit out of you that one does.
I’m probably missing something. Tons has gone on lately. I’ll catch up later but that’s the news for now.
